Building Food Security: A Shared Vision
The Brunch and Learn will address the scope of food insecurity in Philadelphia. Speakers will discuss its impact on the health and well-being of low-resourced families and the tangible ways in which our community can work together to improve food security for families, including advocating for systemic changes.
Central themes include:
- Grasping the issue: Identifying the scope of food insecurity in Philadelphia and the resources available to address this issue
- SNAP benefits: Eligibility, the application process, and troubleshooting issues with the application
- Healthy food choices as disease prevention and how SNAP-Ed can help: using evidence-based nutrition, shopping, and food prep education to help clients use SNAP benefits effectively
- Advocacy and Promoting systemic change: Panel discussion on the interconnectedness to other poverty-related issues, current advocacy efforts, and strategies to further influence local policy maker decisions
