Statement in Response to Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization

HELP: MLP is profoundly outraged by the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned nearly 50 years of legal precedent. Access to safe abortion is not only essential health care, but fundamental to protecting our public’s health. Ensuring the right to a safe abortion is both a matter of equity and social justice. This decision will harm the health of women and birthing people, and will disproportionately impact Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, people with low incomes, people with disabilities and chronic health conditions, people living in rural areas, and other historically and socially marginalized groups. HELP: MLP is also incredibly concerned about the impacts this decision and future decisions will have on other civil liberties, including for LGBTQIA+ communities.

HELP: MLP stands firmly for reproductive justice, which requires access to a full range of safe, legal, and affordable reproductive health care, including abortion. The most important things we can do right now to protect access to abortion in Pennsylvania are:

  1. Donate to abortion funds, such as the National Network of Abortion Funds and the Abortion Liberation Fund of PA (formerly Women’s Medical Fund).
  2. Mobilize and take action to defeat dangerous anti-abortion legislation proposed in Pennsylvania, including by contacting your state Senator and urging NO to Senate Bill 956.
  3. Educate yourself about political candidates’ positions on reproductive rights, including safe abortion.
  4. Vote! This year’s election in Pennsylvania will be very important for protecting reproductive rights. Make sure you are registered to vote in the upcoming election.

HELP: MLP is committed to advocating for reproductive justice for all people, and we will do everything we can to support those affected by the Dobbs decision and to prevent the future erosion of reproductive rights in Pennsylvania and across the country.
